#Repost @leemerrittesq ・・・ On May 13, 2019, the day after Mother’s Day, in the city of Baytown, Texas Pamela Turner (affectionately known as “Nay Nay”) was walking with her dog and picking up trash in the Brixton Apartment complex, where she called home. Although working most of her life as a medical professional Ms. Turner suffered from paranoid schizophrenia which disabled her and she was forced to retire early as she battled this disease. Unfortunately, the community where she lived failed to properly embrace her as a community member in need of additional care and consideration. Instead her apartment complex frequently reported her to the police as she experienced episodes of schizophrenia and the police responded aggressively without due consideration of her condition. This went on for months and led to repeated bouts of incarceration for the ailing grandmother. On this fateful Monday night, Officer Juan Delacruz, who was familiar with Ms. Turner, observed her wondering the neighborhood and decided to target her for additional harassment. His shift had ended. He too was a resident of the apartment complex. He would later argue he was “enforcing a warrant” however common sense exposed this claim as pretext to the harassment of Ms. Turner. Police are not permitted to enforce warrants alone in the dark in the middle of the night— particularly when the subject of the warrant is a known paranoid schizophrenic. Delacruz accosted her anyway. From the onset he was violent. He exited his vehicle with his taser drawn. When Turner attempted to continue to walk home he tased her in the stomach. He then mounted her and violently grabbed at her arms until he lost control of his taser gun. Without another word he pushed away from Ms. Turner, drew his weapon and struck her in the face, chest and abdomen with 5 shots. Today #PamelaTurners family laid her to rest. Today the Baytown Police Department returned Delacruz’s badge and gun and put him back to work. Share this story. Not enough people have heard it. We will allow the family this weekend to mourn ... but tomorrow we fight.💪🏽💪🏽
